Patent Registration

In Turkey, the registration authority for the patents is TURKISH PATENT INSTITUTE established in Ankara .

Although Turkish citizens could apply directly before TPI, the foreigners should appoint a representative / patent attorney / patent bureau to file application, receive the further correspondences and obtain the patent certificate.

TPI accepts the PCT and EP applications, through a patent attorney in Turkey.

Once the application is filed before TPI , the formal examination is completed and and the owner /repsresentative is let to ask search report in 15 months of the application date.

TPI is also one of the search offices that can be chosen by the applicant.

Also SWEDEN, AUSTRIA, SWITZERLAND, RUSSIA, DENMARK, EP PATENT OFFICE are search offices .

According to the search report; the applicant can choose to continue with the examined patent process or stop examination and unexamined patent certificate can be asked from TPI after the publication of the search report for 6 months time.

The patent protection is 7 or 20 years and is not subject to renew when the protection period has been ended.

In 12 months time from the application before TPI, the applicant could file PCT application and in 30 months time from the application , the national entry processes are started.
